 Read Across America - Constitution

The annual Read Across America project gives us the opportunity to introduce 4th and 5th grade students to passages of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

Our volunteer readers use various presentation methods to help students understand the significance of our Founding Documents.
  • The events leading to our independence
  • The rules by which our country works
  • The rights of free people in our country
Here's how it works:
  • Readers have 20-30 minutes for their presentations.
  • All participating 4th and 5th grade students receive a personal Pocket Constitution.
  • In addition to reading portions of the founding documents, there is question/discussion time.
  • Other discussion topics may include: Republic vs. Democracy, Separation of Powers, Bill of Rights.
